The definition of HTML by Merriam-Webser dictionary is: a markup language that is used to create documents on the World Wide Web incorporating text, graphics, sound, video, and hyperlinks. HTML is used to create and visually represent a webpage. HTML is the language that describes the structure and the semantic content of a web document. The content in a web page is tagged with HTML elements such as <img>, <title>, <p>, <picture>, etc. Tags are used to mark the start and end of an HTML element. The start tag consists of an opening angle bracket ( < ) proceed by the element name, zero or attribute and its value, and a closing angle bracket (> ).
HTML has evolved throughout the years since the World Wide Web was invented in 1989. In 1991, the same person that invented the WWW invented HTML. Now a day, HTML has evolved to HTML5. In 2008 the first draft of HTML5 was released, however the complete version was released until October 2014.
